******LEE AGAINST THE WORLD 2.0 on Fri Aug. 3rd POSTPONED/TO BE RESCHEDULED******
Sorry Chesseheads, I inadvertenly scheduled Jon’s dental procedure on this same day. He’ll be too miserable to babysit and he’ll have to be nursed himself overnight. So that takes care of that. Also the other Cheeseball fanatic, Rodney, has to get ready for Mason’s party the next day so he couldn’t attend either. If anyone has ever had their wisdom teeth pulled and can give Jon some positive feedback, let’s hear from ‘ya.
As we all wait in anticipation for the official wedding location announcement from Carol and Paul 2008 headquarters. Many exotic destinations come to mind, Jamaica, Aruba, Cannes, Fiji, Tahiti and Cebu. But, only one is at the top of my list (if it was up to me). We stayed here almost a decade ago and dined in their famed Asian inspired restaurant. Check out the video and you’ll see why I have fallen in love with this place and long to return soon.
Where’s Waldo?

Believe it or not, August and September weekends are booking fast with birthdays and other family events, so I’m not sure how realistic Bay Meadows can be on September 21st. But we’ll see how the schedule pans out over the next couple weeks before I totally remove the event from the calendar.

I think this will be the final post, at least for now, and from me, about Hawaii 2007. The Hawaii blogs have been popular averaging about 350 page views daily and topping out at 704 views during one 24 hour period. That was the highest viewed count since a day in May when we had 718 views. With that said, there are still many many untold stories out there, and even many more that just shouldn’t be retold. I will leave those stories for you to tell amongst each other over the phone, or through family party chatter. However, if you have a funny anecdote to tell, or a photo you would like to share, please feel free to add a posting by emailing me for a username and password or send me an email with your story and I’ll post it for you. I’m sure our family and friends (and the 2 people in Russia who keep checking back here) would love to hear from you.
And now the final words and pictures of Hawaii 2007.

Farthest Traveled: As a Group- The Canadian contingent from Vancouver.

(L-R) Rod, Melissa, Tita Maris, Karen, Rommel, Tita Ning and Joy
As an individual it’s a tie between Melissa (above) who flew in from Toronto and Paul’s mom (bottom right) who began her flight from New York. Her journey actually started from Africa, to France, to N.Y. where she stayed for 2 weeks before continuing to Hawaii via a 2-stop flight.

Best Entrance: Genesa

The most dramatic entrance of the night.
Worst Exit: Justin

Carried out of the Kahala and into the Sheraton by Rodney and I, Justin was second to none in this category. I don’t think anyone else came even close.
Best Hair: Lorie

Platinum purple.
Biggest Flirt: Evan

Evan had free reign over the only single girls at the wedding.
Best Pose: Alani

“GO TOROS!!!”
Biggest Fish Story: Gabe’s 145lb. Yellowfin Tuna (Ahi)

“Congratulations, you may now kiss the bride.”
Worst Drink: The Kahala Cosmo

Cranberry Juice, twist of lime and NO vodka!
Best Friends: Evan and Ryan

Will they be the best men at each other’s wedding?

After the wedding we moved to the North Shore for some deep rest and relaxation. The best beaches on the island are located on this side as well as some world famous eating establishments. I can’t really call them restaurants because one place is located inside a mom and pop style grocery store and the other is a broken down truck on the side of the road.
M. Matsumoto Grocery Store

The best shaved ice is known to come from here. I had some. It was good but I have nothing to compare it to, other than a Slurpee from 7-11.
Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck

The #1
For awesome Shrimp Scampi, full of taste and lots of garlic, this is the place to be. Made famous thanks to the Food Channel. We hit this spot with a bunch of family before closing and they only had enough shrimp for 2 plates. It’s $12 a plate and you get 12 shrimps. The next day we came back a few hours before closing and this time they only had one type of shrimp flavor available out of the 3 choices. Moral of this story….go as early as you can.
Polynesian Cultural Center

Evelyn and Louie went to the Polynesian Cultural Center. Last time I was there I was Evan’s age, I’ll return someday.
Kickin’ back at Turtle Bay Resort

WANTED
As soon as we got home from Hawaii, I went through 2 weeks of mail and found this;

A red light traffic camera ticket.
Although the ticket arrived with my name on it, I was not the driver.

There’s even video evidence.
To be continued…

THE CHEESEBALLS, The Official House Band of AllegedlySpeaking.com

(Click photo to sample the Cheeseball sound)
The Cheeseballs will be at Harry Dentons, located on the top of the Sir Francis Drake Hotel, Friday July 20th and Friday, August 3rd. I first heard them over 12 years ago and they are fun as well as talented. A friend of mine at work is related to the percussionist and Rod also has a friend who is related to one of the vocalists. If you haven’t heard them before, be prepared to love them for the rest of your life once you do.
I’m putting together an exploratory listening expedition for the August 3rd party.
Where? Harry Denton’s Starlight Room, Top of the Sir Francis Drake Hotel, 450 Powell St, San Francisco.
When? August 3rd, 2007 8:30pm to 12:30am
One Month to Post Time

Another season of live racing is about to begin at Bay Meadows next month when the Fall Meet commences on August 22nd, with Friday’s Alive starting up sometime in September (no announcment as yet). The good news is that this will not be the final season for the track, as previously reported, the bad news is that next year will be last. But, at least, that gives us more time to enjoy this place and a chance to win some travel money for the next wedding location. When the Friday’s Alive dates are released, I’ll post them so we can all check our planners for availabilty.

Thanks Kev for sharing this…if you got more keep’em coming.
The Quest for Bottled Water

The wedding had ended and Ethel and the kids got a ride home separately from me. I got a ride from Mellie and Rod, and before they dropped me off at the Hilton, we stopped at the Sheraton to deliver Justin, who had “one too many”, to his room (see MHH Award Winners post for information reagrding that). By the time I got to my room it was 1:30am and as soon as I walked in the door Ethel was complaining that we were out of bottled water. I suggested drinking water from the tap, but that idea was rejected immediately.
I didn’t remember seeing a vending machine on our floor so I called the front desk and asked where the vending machine was located. I was told the only machine on the property was located at the transportation center on the Northeast corner of the complex, and it only sells soda pop. Could that be right? There is only one machine that dispenses drinks here on this 22 acre, 5 building property (see above photo). I then walked through the gift shop courtyard area to the ABC store. It was closed. Then to the main lobby building, where I met with the bell hop. He confirmed that there was only one vending machine for the guests, but he also suggested that I check out the employee machine located at the hotel’s loading dock. I first checked the transportation center soda machine, no water. Then I walked to the back of the property and climbed up and onto the loading dock. No water in that machine.
Then I walked to the parking garage. I didn’t want to lose my space if the lot was full and talked to the parking attendant. He said there was plenty of spaces tonight. I got into my car and started to drive down Kalakaua Avenue, everything was closed. Then Kuhio Avenue. Alot of drunks walking around, but most stores were closed. I found a liquor store still open, but there were too many shady people walking around it. So I decided to leave the area. While driving north on Kapahulu Drive, I found a gas station with a 7-11. A filled up the tank since I was here and bought the water.
When I arrived back at the hotel parking lot, there were police everywhere. I parked my car and asked the parking attendant what was going, he said someone didn’t want to pay. I then walked back up to the room, it was 2:30am. The lights and TV were on when I walked into the bedroom, but Ethel was fast asleep. I put an ice bucket next to her night stand and dropped two water bottles into the ice and went to sleep. When she woke up the next day at 11:30am, I was already awake and on the computer. She then looked at me and said, “What took you so long!” Looking forward to this Gabe?
NEWS
Nic is in Reno, Nv for a basketball tourney this weekend. Good luck Nic. Evelyn, keep us posted. Thanks.
