A Genesa update, A Marriage Proposal, A Yard of Ale and A Harry Potter Review

Genesa arriving back from the hospital

Blackhawk Down
Genesa’s medical condition is stable and she is expected to make a full recovery after her moped mishap the day before the wedding. Apparently, this was day two for her on the moped, and somewhere along Ala Moana Blvd, while she was riding with Jason, Diego and Alberto, the road became rocky and uneven. It should be noted that there is alot of construction in progress in the Ala Moana Blvd and Kalakaua Ave areas. The bike began to slide, she lost her balance and fell off. She ended up with lots of scrapes and bruises, mainly to the right leg and knee. And possibly a sprained or broken toe on the left foot.

Unable to ride the moped back, they called Mark. Since Mark didn’t know exactly where they were, Jen drove him, Markarita and Mahal to search for them. After finding them, Genesa was placed in the van and Mark rode the moped back to the rental garage with the guys. Upon returning at the Sheraton, they asked a bell hop for a wheelchair to get Genesa up to her room. At about 11:30pm, Titang decided Genesa should go the emergency room. They arrived at the Kaiser E.R. at about 1am after getting a little lost and didn’t return till about 8am on 7.7.07, when Gabe and I ran into them at the Sheraton carport. Titang told us she had been awake all night.

How’s this for a unique marriage proposal, while on the flight, on the way to your own destination wedding, why not pop the question. Gabe modeled his marriage proposal after the movie The Wedding Singer.

Canada vs USA

The Canadian contingent of AllegedlySpeaking.com was in Hawaii for the wedding and we finally were able to hook up with them the night after the reception at the Yardhouse on Waikiki’s Beachwalk Drive.

Can you tell from the photo why this place is called the Yardhouse?
Louie (USA), Joy (Canada 1) and Rommel (Canada 2) were all prodded into a challenge on who could finish their yard of ale first.
HPIM1992
Rommel was off to a fast start. But just when his glass was almost empty, beer started pouring back out of his mouth just as fast as it had gone in. I thought it would never stop coming out, but thankfully it did. Unfortunately, the beer that came out, filled about half of his glass again. Canada 2, Disqualified.

The surprise of the night was Joy (Canada 1), who was the only contestant who had finished a yard of ale just ten minutes prior to this event. She was downing her second gigantic glass like it was water and her tenacity was capturing the imagination of the American bar patrons so much that they began chanting, “Ca-Na-Da, Ca-Na-Da, Ca-Na-Da!”
HPIM1993
Not to be out done, Louie (USA), was going strong downing his yard. His strategy was warming the beer up a little by stoking the shaft of his glass quickly, which initially turned some of the American bar patrons off. It was neck and neck, as Joy and Louie were nearing the bottom of their glasses. Both of them decided to stop for air and take short gulps at a time. But in the end, the winner was Louie, who finished his last gulp about a second before Joy could finish hers. USA wins the Gold.
Joy took the close loss in stride. She calmly excused herself from the table, walked to the bathroom and returned the beer into a toilet along with dinner.

Dirty Harry is Back!

I can’t say that I’m a big Harry Potter fan, since the last Harry Potter movie that I didn’t fall asleep watching was the Sorcerer’s Stone, which was the light and humorous introduction to the series compared to the last two dark and forboding episodes. But I have to say, after being dragged to watch the fourth installment of the series, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, it was actually a great movie and a pleasure to watch. We all saw the 10:35pm showing (Evan too) and none of us fell asleep. During the end credits and at 1am, Evan even mentioned that the movie was too short. All of us were still wide awake because our body clocks were still on Hawaii time, which would have been 10pm there. The film was still easy to follow, even though the last two episodes were a blur to me. I won’t go too in depth here because I don’t want to give away what happenes, but I do recommend this film for everyone to see. For me to recommend this film after hating Matrix, Lord of the Rings and other similar fantasy type movies is saying something. So go see it.

Coming Soon:
*The M.H.H. (Most Hammered in Hawaii) Awards to be given out for Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.
*Family Event at Bay Meadows Information.
