As if September wasn’t already loaded with birthdays.
Evan, Ryan, Evelyn, Dad, Sarah and Brandon all had birthday parties this month. With Evan, Ryan and Evelyn celebrating with a “day of birthday” dinner followed by a birthday party on the following weekend.

Welcome Back to the Bay Area, Mark, Maria, Denzel and Tiana. As beautiful as the Pacific Northwest is, nothing beats living in the San Francisco Bay Area. Mark and Maria live several minutes away in Fremont…so start looking for them at the family parties again from now on.

Champcast Waves News
Week 3 - The Waves are 1-2. It’s still early folks, do not panic, hang in there with us, there’s plenty of season left. At least that’s what I keep telling myself. If Week 4 shows no improvement, Gabe and I will be calling a motivational emergency team meeting.

AllegedlySpeaking.com *****Presents***** Spotlight On LOUIE

Louie
Every so often we here at AllegedlySpeaking.com will focus on the lives of one of our members. This week we’re featuring family transportation coordinator and the other half of the family photographer duo, Louie.

Several days ago, while running errands in San Mateo, I met up with Louie while he was at work. As some of you already know, Louie works at Bay Meadows. But you may not know what it is he does there. Louie works in the Payroll Department, and one could even say, he IS the Payroll Department. Anyways, the race track was closed on the day of my visit, so Louie gave me a behind the scenes look at the “goings on” at ‘da Meadows.
BMV1

Entering the empty grandstand area was a strange feeling, especially after being used to seeing the same area on Friday nights. Louie says Friday nights are the most popular, attracting the younger, casual race fans. He estimates the attendance on Friday’s to be between 12,000 and 15,000 spectators. Compared to only the couple hundred hard core spectators found on the weekdays.

We then walked through a tunnel that takes you under the track and to the infield. There used to be a nine hole golf course there, but now it’s a large open grassy field with a small playground for kids. Louie says the infield area can be rented out by groups. The race horses are also kept in a restricted area of the infield. Only certain people with licenses issued by the race horse board are allowed in the restricted area.
BMV4 BMV5

We then left the infield and walked to the paddock area. This is a cool spot at Bay Meadows. It’s where they parade around the horses for the next race and it’s located indoors. I even saw Ethel’s favorite spot at the entrace of the paddock. This is where she makes googly eyes at the horses and waits for their response. The paddock is a good spot to measure up your favorite horses.

We then made our way to where the real magic happens, the Payroll Department! This is where Louie has been getting it done day after day for the past 3 years.

Thanks again Louie for taking me on the tour. Can’t wait to place my first bet on the 28th.

WFFL UPDATE
The CHAMPCAST.com WAVES are 1-0 with a stunning Week 1 victory over the commisioner’s team, The Matterhorn Maniacs. The final score was 137 to 117. Our WAVES won even though our QB, Drew Brees, scored a measly 11 points and our RB, Brandon Jacobs, gave us only 3 points, before spraining his HCL. Jacobs has been moved to the IR and will be out 3 to 4 weeks! Gabe aka “A Beautiful Mind” made some shrewd moves this week to find a replacement, let’s hope they’re fruitful. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Brandon Jacobs for a speedy recovery. GO WAVES!

Still not psyched about racing? Check this out…
Evelyn and Louie hit the track on Labor Day (Monday) because Bay Meadows was giving out free Beach Chairs to all who attended and Evelyn wanted one. Then later on, while in line for a hamburger, an older gentleman asked her if she had signed the “Save Bay Meadows” petition. She told him no and offered her signature and while they were talking, he gave her a “sure thing” for the number 3 race, a horse named “Done Gone Quackers”. The odds on this horse winning was 49.70 which made her the longest of longshots out of 8 other horses. The next closest longshot was at 26.40. So Done Gone Quackers was clearly the “dark horse”. Evelyn then placed her one and only bet of the day, a Trifecta Box wager, and it included Done Gone Quackers.

…And there off! In the first 1/4 of the track, Done Gone Quackers was in 9th place out of 9 horses. At the halfway point, she was still cruising in 9th place! At the 3/4 point of the track, she lumbered into 8th place. But down the stretch, she starts passing horses left and right. Then she was neck and neck with 3 other horses heading for the finish. And at the finish line…”Done Gone Quackers”, jockeyed by our old friend Luis Contrereas, whom we all met at Bay Meadows, Part I., guided her to a second place finish. Evelyn’s other 2 horses in her Trifecta Box bet also came in and she turned her $18 initial investment into an $1100 windfall. Not bad…needless to say we will all be looking around for the “Save Bay Meadows” petioner come the 28th.
