Today, July 1st, 2 new California wireless telephone laws go into effect. The first law prohibits all drivers from using handheld wireless devices except when using a hands free device and the second law prohibits drivers under the age of 18 from using any wireless device either handheld or hands free. The only exception is when you need to use the phone in case of an emergency. And emergency will be defined as a call to a law enforcement agency, a medical provider, the fire department or other emergency service. The fine will be $20 for the first offense and $50 for the second and subsequent offenses. Also, phones with the push to talk feature (Nextel) are not exempt.
For all your wireless telephone needs,

contact Diego…

Allegedly Speaking’s party guru, Mark G., celebrated his landmark 30th birthday with an exclusive cocktail party located on the very top floor, penthouse suite, of a 5-star San Francisco hotel (name of which I’m withholding for legal purposes). In true M.G. style, the event start time was listed as “2:07 pm sharp” (was that a typo Mark?). The door knock code was “…3 times fast, 2 times slow and repeat the password kookoo.”

Only M.G.’s closest friends were allowed into the event.

Now that Ethel’s home from the east coast, we’re back to running late for most events. We showed up 8 hours late.

But we caught up fast.

It’s just not a party until something gets broken and Eug didn’t let us down in that department. Check out Eug throwing yet another shot glass onto the floor like he was conducting a NASA shock test. Also notice the visual commentary by Diego.

Congrats to Diego and Gen who were in control all night.

The last moments of E.G. on his feet.

In the end, it was another succesful event with a good time had by all…

The Hunt for Cheese Steak

Earlier this week I watched a special on the Food Network about Cheese Steak Sanwiches. Of course, for the absolute best cheese Steak, you have to go to it’s birthplace-Philadelphia. I thought the most interesting thing about the authentic Philly version is that they like to use Cheese Whiz. They look so good on TV that it really makes you want to plan a trip over there. Since Ethel is only 20 minutes from Philadelphia right now, I sent her the address to Pat’s King of Steaks (pictured above) to sample one. But that didn’t help my craving for a cheese steak sandwich.
A Google search found a little mom and pop hoagy shop next to Evan’s school in Fremont. So I piled the kids in the car and drove to Bob’s Hoagy Steaks, 37404 Fremont Blvd. I got the Philly Cheese Steak (large-$5.05), Jon ordered the Mushroom Cheese Steak (large-$5.55) and Evan wanted the Grilled Cheese and fries ($3.50) from the kids menu. We took our orders togo and they really hit the spot.

I can’t tell you what a Pat’s sandwich tastes like, but they look similar. Pat’s on the left Bob’s in Fremont on the right. (WARNING: Clicking the above photos will enlarge them and make you go on your own Hunt for Cheese Steak Sandwiches!)

Jon’s Mushroom Cheese Steak. He liked it alot…probably could have used more mushrooms.

Evan’s Grilled Cheese Sandwich. I’m not sure if it was actually grilled. It looks more like it was toasted and then microwaved. But Evan didn’t complain. Notice they use steak fries.

I also ordered Fish and Chips (3pc. $7.45). The strips of fish were still crunchy when we got home and they use nice long pieces.
Don’t be shocked to see Udon, Terriyaki and Kabobs over rice on the menu too, the place is Asian owned. I saw other people eating the soup in the restaurant and it looked good.
