August has been incredibly busy and the month isn’t even half over yet! Baby Emma and Baby Devin will be going home this week. And Paul and Carol will also be coming back from the islands as husband and wife. Also happening this month, Nic’s first day of high school, the beginning of Jon’s senior year of high school, Diego, Jen and family head out to Nicauragua, Ethel and I attend an alternative lifestyle wedding, Mellie, Rod and posse will be checkin’ out the Rib Festival in Reno and Gabe will represent the World Champion ChampCast Waves at what will probably be the most controversial WFFL draft ever.
Today is my first day back at work since vacation. You know the feeling, the knot in your stomach right before you open your email or check your voicemail messages. This is always a dreaded day for everyone and there is nothing that can be done about it, or is there. Most people don’t LOVE their jobs, they may like what they do, or like how much they’re paid, but there are not too many people who really love what they do and are able to make their living doing it. For the rest of us, in order to deal with the Back to Work Blues, this is what I do.
To me the first day back at work is your excuse to “goof off” and do whatever it is you need to do to get through the day. I usually like to make sure everybody knows I’m tired because it’s my first day back and if you came back from a place that’s in a different time zone, even better. Once the word gets out everyone will understand why you’re not as productive as you normally would be. Then do all the things you like to do at work…and do that ONLY. If surfing the net is something you love to do, do it, shop at Ebay, book a mini-trip on Expedia, search future vacation spots, plan your grocery list at Safeway.com, or post a column at AS.com. Or make extra trips to the coffee bar, experiment with different coffees and teas. And Hangout at the watercooler. But the most important thing to do is this…don’t look at your watch. If you can, keep it at home and use your cellphone or computer when you need to know the time of day. If all that doesn’t work, you are too tired to work and should go home. Call it a day and go home using a reason that would get you in the least amount of trouble with your boss.
Good Luck.

Baby Devin!

I’m not sure how much longer the Emma Cam will be up, but probably not too much longer.
