The Worry Warrior

The first Warriors home game since April 16 was last Friday and ironically, it was against the same players but they were wearing different uniforms and playing for a different city. The Seattle Supersonics moved to Oklahoma City over the summer and now call themselves the “Thunder”. And because of that, the Warriors front office wants to get rid of our beloved team mascot, Thunder. Over the past few years, the Warriors have been downscaling the gametime entertainment experience. The team has felt recently that since the Warriors have been more competetive amongst the ranks of the NBA, that they didn’t need to use the gimmicks to lure families into the arena. Now, it seems, since the arena is usually full, they are trying to focus on game play and attract the basketall purists (aka the snobs). It’s the basketball snobs who hate the give-aways, and pointless entertainment efforts at the arena. And it’s these same snobs who can’t stand Thunder for some reason. Unfortunately, even though these so-called purists are in them minority when it comes to their hatred of Thunder, they have a deep and powerful voice within the organization who long to bring the mystique for the game back much like the Lakers and Celtics have done recently. And it is because of these people that Thunder must go. But wait…there must be something we could do (more on that later).
At the game, the Warriors looked pretty good. They lead the entire game and ended up winning by 20 points (Warriors 122 - Thunder 102). But, the Warriors are missing something, they’re missing that presence, that swagger, that only a few players in the league can bring. Baron had those qualities, and if you could rank all of the players who possess those traits, he would probably be ranked last. So that means in order for the Warriors to get that “I don’t give a F about you” mentality back they would have to grab someone even better! Does Mully have another move in him by the mid-season deadline, or has Cohan and Rowell lost all faith in him now and are ready to veto any proposal he comes up with.
Absent from the game was Thunder. The crowd seemed kinda dead, but it’s hard to gauge what the impact will really be once the regular season officially starts on October 29. If the Warriors get off to a slow start they’re gonna need to find a way to bring Thunder back to get some kind of enthusiasm back into the arena. Until then, please write or email the Warriors to save Thunder…

Killer Wave
I’ve been telling you guys that snorkeling can be dangerous! Here’s a story off the wire from AP.
By HERBERT A. SAMPLE – 15 hours ago
HONOLULU (AP) — Two sisters-in-law were struck by large waves on the Kauai shore and were pulled out to sea, and a snorkeler also died over the weekend as high surf hit Hawaii.
The women were strolling along Queen’s Bath in Princeville on Sunday when a large wave knocked one woman down and a second wave swept both women into the water, according to Clayton Arinaga, assistant Kauai police chief for patrol services.
One woman’s husband tried to swim to them but had to turn back because of strong currents. Lifeguards weren’t able to resuscitate the women, Arinaga said.
The National Weather Service had advised of high surf Sunday morning for north-facing beaches in Hawaii, including Kauai. The advisory lasts through Tuesday evening, and lifeguards have been warning people away from the water. The waves were expected to reach as high as 18 feet on Kauai.
“This weekend, we had large surf hitting the north side of the island,” Arinaga said. “If you’re not familiar with wave action at all, this would be a problem.”
The women were identified as Heather Westphal, 33, of Washington, D.C., and Tonya Cataldo, 38, of Parker, Colo.
Earlier Sunday, a body surfer at a beach in Kapaa found the body of a snorkeler in the water. Arinaga said the man was 74-year-old Hiroaki Kinjo of Saitama Ken, Japan.
Drowning appeared to have caused all three deaths, but autopsies were scheduled Tuesday.
